Google TV Streamer Price Increase Makes Its 4K Streaming Box $50 More Expensive

Google has increased the price of its Google TV Streamer, with the 4K streaming device now costing $149.99 in the US.

The new price represents a $50 increase from its original $99.99 launch price in 2024, marking a 50% price increase for the two-year-old device.

Google TV Streamer Hardware Remains Unchanged

The Google TV Streamer 4K continues to offer up to 4K HDR resolution with Dolby Vision, along with Dolby Atmos audio support. The device includes 4GB of memory and 32GB of storage, plus Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Matter and Thread support for smart-home connectivity.

The new pricing is already listed on the Google Store, while Best Buy has also updated its price. As reported by The Verge, Amazon was still showing the previous $99.99 price at the time of its report, meaning some retailers may continue selling existing inventory at the older price.

Google's current product page lists the same hardware specifications alongside the new $149.99 price. The company has not announced a new Google TV Streamer model or hardware upgrade to accompany the price hike.

Why Did Google Raise the Google TV Streamer Price?

Google has not publicly provided a specific reason for the Google TV Streamer price increase. 9to5Google reported that rising RAM costs could be a factor, particularly as the device contains 4GB of memory.

The pricing change also comes during a broader period of rising component costs affecting consumer electronics. Amazon recently raised prices on several Fire TV, Echo and Kindle products, citing higher memory and storage component costs. Its Fire TV Stick 4K Max, for example, increased to $84.99.
